Can you believe it? January is over half gone, and my wonderful granddaughter is already 6 months old! It is hard to believe. She is such fun.

Gramma's Sewing Room

Well, I have been busy with some sewing projects, crocheting and general crafting. Here are some of my projects:

These are some of the burp clothes that I have been making. They are flannel on both sides with cotton batting in the middle. If interested in some for your little ones, let me know!

I have also been working on hair bows that will clip on hairbands right now, but be able to clip in hair when there is hair. If you are interested in any of these, let me know and I will talk with you about colors, themes etc!

And this is my wonderful granddaughter Mikaela showing off her new hat! It is crocheted with curly pig tails and bows. Again, let me know if you are interested in one of these. I currently have another one made of pink camo yarn ready for someone to enjoy.

Where has the time gone...

I can't believe that it is already August. I will be sending my baby off to college in 2 weeks. I can't believe that she is already 19 years old.

My son graduated in June from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy and now is a police officer with the city of Lynchburg, VA. We are so proud of him!

My son and his wife just made me a gramma 2 weeks ago... Miss Mikaela Kathleen Isner was born on July 21, 2011, weighing in at 8 lbs 7 oz, 21 1/4" long. She is absolutely beautiful.

We have moved from the Fredericksburg VA area to Blue Ridge VA. We relocated the end of June, enabling me to watch my granddaughter when everyone goes back to work. I am VERY excited to get to spend time with Mikaela.

My husband's new job is Facilities Manager for Camp VA Jaycee owned by Dare to Care Charities, Inc. . We live on site at the camp, so that we are available 24/7. It is the PERFECT job for him. He is enjoying the job, the 90 acres, a swimming pool, pond, 8 cabins, and various other buildings and all that it entails.

I haven't been doing much sewing lately because of packing/unpacking etc, but I hope to get all my 'stuff' organized soon and get some new projects going.

I have been doing digital scrapbooking, though, with lots of pages of my new grandbaby! She is just such an easy subject to scrap!

Hope everyone is having a good month so far. Here are some of the pages that I have done in the last few days! Most of these were done for challenges at Digi Design Resort. It is a great place to hang out if you are an avid digi-scrapper (or even if you aren't an avid scrapper. Lots of great stuff going on and lots of inspiration.

I am going to be a Grandma in July ~ and it is going to be a GIRL! So excited!!

We went to a friend's wedding in FL in February. Here are 3 pages that I made from her pictures.

This is my beagle baby when she was a bitty puppy! She is still a cutie!

One of my past times is watching the birds at the feeders outside the window. It is so peaceful to watch them and see the different varieties. We have had black-capped chickadees, downy woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatches and the ever present snowbirds or juncos.

Where has the month gone...

Well, February is almost gone and I have done little to no scrapping or sewing. I guess being in transition saps my energy more than I thought.

Right now we are in Locust Grove, VA thanks to the kindness of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They are graciously sharing their space with us until we figure out what we are doing now.

We ended up having to leave our rental due to a chimney fire (furnace chimney, not fireplace chimney) which sent soot throughout the house and covered everything. It also made it very hard for my daughter (who has asthma) to breathe, so in the space of 10 days we packed up and moved out.

The last Friday in January, when we were doing the last push to move out of the house, my husband called and informed me that he was being laid off in the next 2-3 weeks. Wow... guess it was a good thing we were moving anyhow, because now we couldn't afford rent either.

So, as of February 11, 2011, we are once again looking for a job. This is the second time in a year that we are doing this. We have no idea what we are doing now, but we are listening and waiting to see where the Lord leads us next. We are hoping for Lynchburg, VA, since my son and his wife are living there and they are expecting my first grandbaby in July 2011!

Missing in Action

Seems that I have been missing from here for awhile... A lot has happened in the last month!

The house we were renting had a chimney fire (furnace chimney) and blew soot all through the house. With a child with allergies and asthma, that wasn't a good plan... so after a week of trying to figure out what was going on with the house, we felt it was in the best interest of all of us and our health to move out of the house. So, we are living with my husband's brother and his wife until we figure out what is next.

While we were in the midst of moving, my husband's boss told him that he had 2-3 weeks left to work because he was being laid off, due to lack of work...

So, not only have we packed up and moved out of our house, we have also lost a job for the second time in a year... Life is a challenge right now.

So, I haven't been doing a whole lot of scrapping, just don't have the motivation, I guess... but I am working on getting busy with some more scrapbook pages in the next few days or so... Going to start working on the challenges at Digi Design Resort. That always gets me motivated. As well as the recipe challenge at Digital Design Studio... so, I am off to scrap...

Wow, another year come and gone and we are almost halfway through January 2011. Where does the time go??

We spent time with my son and his wife at Christmas and had a great time! My daughter and her fiance' are here from FL right now, so I haven't gotten too much done, but I have scrapped a few more pages... I have been trying to get pages scrapped from my husband's parents 60th Anniversary Party so that we can get the book of pages ordered for them!

Photography, Custom Totes and who knows...

My sister-in-law is a wonderful photographer. She and I were talking one day, and we put our heads together and came up with the idea/design to deliver her pictures in a custom made tote bag. Here are some pictures of the ones that I did for her this past week.

I have also been working on custom embroidery emblems for a local Elementary School for something their guidance office has going on. Here is a picture of a jacket with the design I digitized for them.

I have also been doing some sewing ~ both for myself and also for others.

Here is my latest project for myself... I'm thinking about entering it in the VA State Fair, but that means I can't use it yet :-(

This is my Harmony Bag (pattern from Studio Kat Designs). I really like this pattern,
and, of course, Coffee is one of my favorite things!

The coffee embroidery (from Embroidery Library) that I used to embellish the front.

I also made Encore Purse Insert (Studio Kat Designs) out of the same fabric! It makes it
easier to change purses in a minute!

This is the inside of the purse with the insert in it... Lots of pockets, zippers and goodies!

I enjoyed working on this bag, though it was a bit complicated at times (or else I was too tired to work on it some of the times I was working)....

Thought I would make a short post today... My mom, Zada Pearl Rhodes, passed away Thursday evening after battling diabetes and kidney failure for a number of years. I am back in FL helping my dad deal with all the 'stuff' that goes along with that.

Thanks, mom, for being a great mom to me! I'm glad you are no longer suffering and in pain. You will be missed. I love you.

MAY ... goodness, where has the time gone??

Just an update... My husband lost his job in FL the end of February. We looked for jobs there, but nothing was working for us. He was offered a job in VA, back to his 'home town' area, so we packed up all our 'stuff' loaded up the truck and trailer and headed north Easter night. It took us 24 hours to get from Ocala, FL to Orange, VA... normally a 12 hour drive. We had trouble with the truck, but we made it all the way! God is Good!!

It worked out really well, as my best friend, Ruth, was in FL with her in-laws and was heading home about the same time we were, so she was able to help us drive back, which worked for me, since I'm not a good distance driver.

We stayed with Lawrence's brother for about a month, and moved into our rental on May 1... we are still trying to get everything put away and settled, but most of the issues now are things that we need to put together, build or try and replace as we don't have them any more... so it is a little slower going than I would like it to be. But, all in all, we have been very blessed. We have been given some wonderful things that we needed, as well as a great house to rent with terrific landlords who are being wonderful with us.

I can't believe it is almost March 2010! Where has the time gone. Things around 'My Little Corner of the World' have been a bit hectic, I guess.

It is hard to know where to begin! We have been to Edisto Beach, SC for Thanksgiving with the kids and had a GREAT time. We spent a quiet Christmas in FL with my parents. My husband started a new job, my oldest daughter went away to school in St. Augustine to the school of her dreams, Flagler College. She is studying elementary education and deaf education (double major, I think). My baby got her driver's license, her first job, her first car... Wow, there really has been a lot going on.

My mom has started dialysis and that seems to be going pretty well for the moment.

I have been doing some sewing... I made some Christmas ornaments, I finished up a couple shirts for my husband that I had been working on, a am making a baby quilt, and I have been trying to work more diligently on my digitizing (for those that don't do machine embroidery, that is the process of making a design so that it will stitch out on your machine - going from a picture to the actual stitches)
This is an actual stitch-out of a design that I did. I don't think that you can tell, but between the yellow, the fabric is cut away so that you can see through part of the butterfly! This was from an online digitizing class that I try and keep up with. It was fun to work with something that I wasn't sure about, because I have never done any cutwork before. But, it turned out pretty well. My first attempt was too small, but it made a cute little butterfly design anyhow!

August Already!

Wow, where has the summer gone? I can't believe that kids start back to school in just a couple weeks here in FL.

We were in VA for a couple weeks on vacation. We got to spend a few days with my husband's brother and his wife (Mark and Kathy). We had a great visit! We enjoy wonderful hospitality and friendship. It was so good to see Mark up and around and doing wonderfully well. He is back to work on full duty after his injury in October of last year. God has been very good to him!

Then we spent a week with my son and his wife (Brandon & Beth). We had a nice visit. In the middle of it was Beth's family reunion, which they were hosting in Bedford VA at Smith Mountain Lake. It was a wonderful weekend. The family reunion was refreshing to our souls and it was wonderful to meet new people and be accepted into their family.

We are back in FL, back to the day to day life. I miss the family we left in VA, but I still know that this is where we are suppose to be and this is what we are suppose to be doing... helping out my parents. Sometimes it is hard, frustrating and down right irritating, but I am hanging in there and trying to have a good attitude and right spirit.

Hope you are all enjoying the final days of summer. I am hoping to get to spend a day at the beach here soon, before things kick back in full tilt with school.

Wow ... Where has the time gone??

Boy, I have neglected my blog... I can't believe it is almost June. I have been busy doing who knows what... I have been working on some tote bags for my 'daughter's' family reunion this summer, we have been to the beach for a week, and just general life, I guess.

I haven't done any scrapbooking in such a long time. I have been trying to focus more on my sewing and embroidering. I can't seem to find the time to work on them both at the same time.

We had a great time at the beach. We were there the week before the HUGE storms that left Ormond Beach, FL flooded. For that, I am very thankful. It was nice to be able to sit and enjoy the ocean, waves, sights, smells... It was just a much needed break in my year. I spent the first 3 days with my husband celebrating our 4th anniversary. The rest of the week, he had to go back to work, so my girls and my friend, Ruth, from VA joined me! We had a great time... No schedule, not anything hard and fast planned...

We visited St. Augustine a couple times, and ate at the Santa Maria... they have the most awesome Krab Bites! And there were dolphins swimming right by the restaurant. (It is out over the water. You can feed the fish from inside the restaurant through little doors in the window sill. My youngest daughter (who is almost 17) was most excited about feeding the fish!!

This is a pirate ship that you can ride! It is docked at the marina right at the Lion's Bridge in St. Augustine, FL. They are all dressed in costume and in character! You become part of the pirate adventure while you are on board. We thought about going on a ride and decided to wait until we could all go together. The day we thought about it, it was their FIRST day in operation! If I had known that I might have decided to do it anyhow! It looks like a lot of fun.

And we saw a WHITE peacock! I have never seen a white peacock before. It was absolutely beautiful! We were visiting the 'Fountain of Youth' ... again in St. Augustine!

If you ever get the chance to eat at a 'Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co' you should do it! It was really good and we had a lot of fun!

What I've been up to...

Wow, where has the time gone?!?! I can't believe it is already past the middle of February.

I have been busy working on all kinds of fun stuff. I'm a huge fan of purses that can also be backpacks. I bought one a few years ago at Kohl's and I really like it because of the way that it is made, you can use it like a regular purse or a backpack. Well, I have been thinking about it for quite a while, and have finally made the pattern and made one. I like the way that it turned out, though for some, the colors might be a 'tad' bright! Very tropical!

I have also been working on some little Easter bunnies that you can put a mini candy in or a gift card or even cash! They turned out really cute too.

I have also been doing some research on dyslexia and some reading. Heading to a seminar on Friday to listen to Sue Barton. Should be really interesting. So, we have been busy, busy, busy...

And then there is helping out with my folks too... But, we were able to get away on Valentine's Day and head to Cedar Key. It is a lovely, quaint little place on the Gulf Coast. We had a good time poking around in the shops and had a great meal at one of the restaurants right on the water. If you are anywhere near there, and haven't had the chance to check it out, it is a nice day trip. We even 'witnessed' a wedding that lasted about 5 minutes (at the top). When they were finished saying their vows (which we didn't hear because it was outside with lots of pelicans flying around and lots of people fishing on the pier), they 'took the plunge' literally... they had wet suits under their clothes, so they stripped off the clothes and jumped off the pier into the Gulf to a waiting little boat... that looked like it would sink if you weren't too careful! It was an interesting wedding to say the least. But, they seemed happy and everyone that was part of the wedding seemed to think it was just the way they wanted it... so ... more power to them... personally, I don't think I would jump off a perfectly good pier into the Gulf 10+ feet below just for kicks on my wedding day! But the, that's just ME!

February Already

Where does the time go?! I can't believe that it is almost the middle of February already.

I have been working on a few sewing projects. Here are a couple of pictures of the quilted purse I made for my "daughter's" birthday! it turned out pretty good. She really likes snowflakes and one of the pieces has snowflakes. She also likes purple, especially the sparkly purple fabric!

There is one zippered pocket on this front side. There are pockets in the inside as well. I also put a piece of pastic canvas in the bottom to make it a bit more sturdy, but it is removable so that the bag can be washed.

(Sorry, the picture is a bit blurry. I had a hard time getting one that was good of the inside!)

I am working on another bag, this one a backpack purse kind of thing... it is a crazy patchwork bag. When it is together, I will post some of those pictures as well.

Wow - Almost the end of January already

Just thought I would post a quick note. My son and his wife both had birthdays this week. Brandon's was Sunday and Beth's is today. I hope that you both had a great birthday. I will post a couple pictures in the next day or so of some of my recent projects.

Now I can share my pictures ...

Now I can post the pictures of some of the goodies that I made for Christmas. The first is a Christmas Tree Skirt that I made for my son and his wonderful wife.

The embroidery is called 'Santa's Ride' and it is from BFC Creations. I love this design set. It stitches out so great! I used crystals in all the stars and on Rudolph's nose. I also decorated the tree with some of them.

I also made my 'daughter' a black fleece jacket with a snowflake on it.

I also used hot-fix crystals on the snowflake. (I'm becoming a real fan of these. They are so much fun to use and EASY to put on!)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed time with family and friends. My son and his wife were visiting from Virginia. It was a great Christmas with them. I'm just sad they had to leave to go back home today :(

I also want to wish you all a Joyous and Happy New Year as we get ready to enter 2009. May the year be full of all those things that are nearest and dearest to your heart. My prayer for everyone is that this coming year will be your best year yet and that it will be filled with peace, joy and lots of love.

It is hard to believe that there is only one week (actually, 6 days!) left until Christmas! So much to do, so little time.

I have been sewing, sewing and more sewing. I seem to work better under the stress of having to get it done, I guess... I have had all year to work on some of this stuff! And, here I am, down to the wire trying to get it all done. I will post a couple pictures, after Christmas, as some of the goodies are gifts.

We have also started on a marathon of baking for the holidays. Christmas cookies by the dozens are sitting in the refrigerator waiting to be roll in balls, cut into gingerbread men or other shaped sugar cookies and more. We are making, pfeffernause, gingerbread men, sugar cookie cutouts, chocolate crinkles, snicker doodles, and peanut butter cookies. Then there are those pretzel reindeer just waiting to me done too! And we can't forget the Creme de Menthe Brownies or the apple pie... goodness, you can gain weight just looking at the list.

So, haven't gotten too much done on the computer for scrapbooking, but I hope to have some time after the first of the year to get back to photoshop and see what other things I can come up with. I so admire those ladies that can get a new kit out each week or even every few days. I have no idea how they do it! My hat's off to them all! Wish I had that kind of talent. I was just really excited that I came up with the Christmas ornaments on my own by thinking about the different shapes and parts to an ornament and then trying to make one in photoshop!!

In case I don't post any more until after the holidays, I want to take this time to wish You and Yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Update on Mark

Just thought I would let everyone know that Mark is doing better. They moved him to Kindred Hospital in Richmond, VA, and there they found scar tissue in his trachea. They then moved him to VCU in Richmond so that they could remove the scar tissue. They also decided that it was time to take the trach out. So that is all GOOD news. Mark even got to talk to his 'big brother' (my husband) on the phone tonight. That is the first time since the accident that my husband has gotten to talk to his brother. They are considering keeping him at VCU at this point, which is probably also a GOOD thing. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Mark and the family.

I am also participating in the blog train for December with ADSD. I will post a couple previews in the next couple days...

Okay folks, it has been awhile since I have posted. I have been out of town on a family emergency. My brother-in-law, who is a firefighter, was injured in a training mission on Oct 28, 2008. He fractured his skull and had to have emergency surgery to remove the bone fragments as well as a subdural hematoma. Mark's Progress

Mark is doing a bit better today. They are going to try and reduce the sedation a bit and see how he tolerates it. They have changed the ventilator settings a little, so Mark is breathing a bit more on his own. They are hoping that he tolerates it well and keeps his saturation up so that they can continue to drop it down. When it gets to a certain point, they are going to move the ventilator to a trache so that it is a more stable airway and then they can move him more easily.

Mark Weeks

I just thought I would make a note of what is going on with my brother-in-law, Mark Weeks. He is a firefighter at AP Hill in VA, and was hurt during a training accident on Tuesday, October 28, 2008. He feel off the back of the truck and fractured his skull. He had to have emergency surgery Tuesday evening to removed the skull fragments, as well as remove a hemotoma from his brain.

He is still in ICU in Fredericksburg, VA . As far as they can tell at the moment, his head injury is healing nicely, however, when he fell he aspirated and has burned his lungs (kind of like a rug burn on the inside of his lungs). They are not healing as quickly as they would like to see them heal, so he is still on a ventilator as well as being kept sedated so that he doesn't fight the vent. They have put him on diuretics to help move the fluid, as well as a pulmonary vest to help break up the 'junk' in his lungs. We are hoping for a step forward this morning when we get to see him and find out how he did over night.

So... we are still waiting to see how he is doing before we decide if we stay in Va or head back home to FL.

I can't believe it is almost the end of October. I have been working on learning more features/functions in Photoshop Elements 6, as well as working on finishing my quilted jacket and making a matching purse to go with it.

Here is a picture that I worked on today.

These out of bounds pictures are so interesting... and they are pretty fun to do...

I'm also working on a new kit. I will have it up before too much longer.

I haven't been posting much because my dad had knee replacement on Sept. 29, 2008. He is home and doing really well, but it has been keeping me busy.

Well, I haven't gotten my jacket done yet, but I will post some pictures later.

But, I did get a page scrapped from our 'party' for the first UF Gators game of 2008.

I combined a solid background (orange) with a plaid paper (blue plaid) and came up with the background. Both papers were from Scrapbook Flair's kit Backyard BBQ. The cluster frame started with 4 windows, but I only needed 3, so I cropped out one and it was from Gunhild Storeide. The glitter fill from the frame and one of the text blocks came from Danielle S at http://adashofwhimsicalcreations.blogspot.com and is AutumnGlitterLK-D08. Just thought I would add a note... I haven't gotten too much scrappin' done the last few days. I guess I have been more in a sewing mood. Seems like I go back and forth.

Here is a bowl that I did a day or so ago...

The bowl is Free Standing Lace, made on my embroidery machine. Then I made a fabric liner, so that if it got dirty, the liner could be washed.

Today I am working on a quilted sweatshirt jacket... I will post some pictures of it later.

One of these days I will get back to scrappin!

Homasassa Springs

We spent an afternoon at Homasassa Springs in March! What a wonderful place to go if you are ever in our neck of the woods! It is a beautiful wildlife park, and they have 6 resident manatees, along with all kinds of other animals and birds. They also have an honorary resident of Florida in the park, a Hippo!

Wow, we got back off vacation June 7th, and I have been back and forth to the hospital and rehab center with my mom ever since. She has only been home for 4 days. And to make matters worse, my computer died, so I'm using an old one and can't seem to get anything scrapped because this computer just doesn't cooperate.

I hope to have mine back this week, and then I have lots of pics to work on. We went Deep Sea Fishing this past weekend, and I have fun pictures to work with.

Well, it has been a few days. I haven't had a lot of time to 'create' anything, as I'm getting ready to go out of town for a few days. But I did make a layout last night for a challenge, and it turned out pretty good, so I will post it here.

I am working on a new 'kit' and hope to have it done in a few days. Will post as soon as I get it done. This has been a lot of fun, but it is harder than I thought. I got lucky on the first one!!
